Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oil of Verbena rigida Spreng.

چکیده

The study was planned to determine the chemical composition and antimicrobial properties of essential oil Verbena rigida Spreng. cultivated in Egypt. from aerial parts prepared by hydrodistillation a yield 0.26 % v/w. has been elucidated gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy analysis. tested against selected species Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria Candida using disc diffusion method MICs were determined broth micro-dilution method. Twenty-eight compounds identified rigida, major components isobornyl formate (35.2%) citral (32.9%). showed significant activities Staphylococcus aureus, epidermidis, Bacillis subtilis, Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aeruginosa with MIC 25 µg/mL for E. 50 other sensitive bacteria. This is first activity V. it proved that possesses potential could future represent new source natural antiseptic agents.
